Free Oral History Course
11 September to 20 November 2018No previous experience required.
This North Inner City Folklore Project initiative signals a new phase in our mission to record and preserve stories and memories from older people in the community.
Our free 10 week course will equip people from the North East Inner City with everything they need to know about recording oral history interviews.
The course starts on Tuesday 11 September, 2018 and will run from 2pm – 3.30pm each week at the Charleville Mall Library.
Every Tuesday afternoon for ten weeks, down-to-earth historians and an award winning documentary maker will give a great grounding in how to go about collecting and recording oral history interviews.
The course will include elements such as how to prepare for an oral history interview, interview techniques, how to use professional recording equipment, editing, cataloguing and preserving your interview for future generations. There will also be an overview of the history of the area.
Ideally, we are looking for people who will be interested in putting their skills into action to record occasional interviews with older members of the community after they have completed the course.
There will be a limit of 10 places on the course.

An information session early in September will give an introduction to the 10 week programme and will also provide course participants with an opportunity to say hello before our first module on 11 September.
